I am trying to run a yum update on my CentOS 5.5 box. Everything goes
well until it tries to update perl:

Updating:
perl x86_64

My server is running x86_64, but the only perl on it (installed during
the normal OS install) is i386 - and to top it off, it seems to think it
has it installed twice:
This would have shown the truth of the matter:
[r...@penguin ~]# rpm -q perl --qf '%{name} %{arch} \n'
perl x86_64
[r...@penguin ~]#
I went to some trouble on this system to ensure it's amd-64 only, but I
have a couple of new systems, recently installed, where I took no such
care and they are fully up to date, so maybe CentOS has fixed the
problem. Or, I was lucky.
