After I first got my Squeezebox about a month ago, I had a number of
problems with files being unplayable by Squeezebox after ripping with
Itunes. I had thought making the transition from Itunes to EAC/FLAC
solved the problem. However, a recent experience encoding with
EAC/FLAC leaves me to conclude that Slimserver 6.2.0 has issues with
song titles, moreso than the method of encoding itsefl.

Yesterday, I was encoding Bill Laswell's "Disengage". I download the
track information from the built-in "freedb" utility. After ripping
with EAC, and encoding with FLAC, only 1 of the CD's 8 tracks would
play on the Squeezebox. The dreaded, and all too frequent "Problem -
Cannot Open File" message was returned on the Squeezebox screen.

On this particular album, many of the songs are collaborations between
Laswell and other artists. So, the song titles assigned by freedb are
something like...

Tangier Space Draft (with DXT)

Black Down (with Peter Namlook)

Evil Eye (with Jah Wobble and Jeff Bova)

None of these songs would play in Squeezebox - UNTIl I altered the
songtitle - I basically deleted the parts with the parenthesis and
Voila - the songs played fine! The new song titles...

Tangier Space Draft

Black Down

Evil Eye

In all my years of using various media players - I have NEVER
experienced a player that couldn't deal with CDDB and freedb song tags.
Until Slimserver, that is. Even the early versions of Winamp back in
1998 and 1999 could handle song titles that make 2005 Slimserver choke.

It's really an irritating bug - I cannot believe I'm the only one
experiencing this problem. I don't know if a formal bug report has ever
been filed on this issue or not, but one definitely should.
