Interesting. Thanks for that. Unfortunately my iTunes seems to be even
more egotistical and self-centred than yours. Maybe I've been a bad
iTunes parent and raised it badly.

Specifically regarding your suggestions above, when I re-add the entire
music folder it just will not change tags on existing files. I suspect
that re-adding the music folder will be the best way to add entirely
new music but it just doesn't seem to work for me as a way of updating
existing tags.

Your second right-click..."Get Info" suggestion did do the trick for me
but I had to go counter to your advice. I needed to hit OK on all the
warnings and then it did update the tags. If I hit cancel then it did
nothing.
