I started by doing conversions from flac but got bored with it. I'm now trying a different, somewhat lateral approach, namely making my iPod play flac files (amongst other things) directly. (I have an iPod Photo.) I'm messing with Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/. It has rough edges at the moment and is currently not quite as intuitive, but it is so /easy/ just to be able to copy folders out of my Slimserver library on to the 'Pod, I am now using the iPod much more than I used to - and the audio quality appears better in many cases. The bootloader also allows you to easily boot into the Apple firmware (and it's easy to remove it completely too) instead.
