Not sure this is the best way to do this... if you have tagged all of
the tracks with an Artist value of "Various Artists", then I think
you've just defeated the intended behaviour of the new, clever, Various
Artist handling within slimserver. And I'm not surprised that nothing is
showing up under "Various Artists", as (with your tagging scheme) no
albums qualify!
An interesting experiment might be to go to Server settings / behaviour
/ Compilations and put something other than "Various Artists" in the box
("Mixed", say). You might then find that SLimserver will treat all
those "Various Artists" albums as normal albums by the artist called
"Various Artists", and they will show up as such.
What I think you're meant to do (and it certainly works for me) is to
set Artist for each track to the correct band/artist name. With "Group
Compilation Albums Together" set, slimserver will spot that these
albums have more than one artist associated with them and will put them
in the Various Artists category.
Using the Various Artists stuff inthe intended manner means that all
those artists (hundreds of them in my case) that only appear on
compilations do NOT clutter up the list when browsing by artist, but I
can easily see the compilation albums by selecting the "Various
Artists" artist.
The only thing that is not working for me (and its a minor gripe) is
that if in the web interface I select Browse Artists / Various Artists,
the count at the top of the page is wrong (it says 0 albums with 0 songs
by 833 artists). But all the albums are listed, have the right contents,
and play...
