Right - done a bit of messing around with various combinations of ripping software / tagging software and slimserver settings. Observations are:
Compilation album behaviour works fine for me on the player interface (i.e. on the screen of the SB and navigating by using the remote) - PPC Linux and 6.2.2. (both v28 and v29 firmware). If I scroll to Browse Artists, I can see an option Various Artists and behind that the albums that are tagged as compilations. However (and this is the point that seems to be causing some confusion) Compilation behaviour is *not* reflected in the web interface. Even if Compilation behaviour is working fine in the slimserver interface, when I go to the web interface there is no "Various Artists" option available and none of the individual artists on files tagged as compilations show up at all (i.e if there's one cd, 15 files, it will show as 0 artists with a blank screen). It doesn't seem to make a difference whether I use mp3 or flac files - didn't try other formats. Chris - can you confirm this is what you see as well - i.e. compilation behavious works in slimserver interface , but not in web interface ? Technical people: Is there a reason that compilation behaviour on the web interface isn't consistent ? Could the web interface be made to work the same way as the slimserver interface - i.e. show Various Artists under Browse Artists if compilation behaviour is selected ? As an aside, different ripping software treats compilations quite differently. As an example, if I rip a compilation album with Audiograbber and tick "part of compilation", it tags the files with the names of the individual artists on songs. If I don't tick the compilation option, the name of the DJ / first artist is repeated for all files. I needed to add a "compilation" tag to files ripped using Itunes to get compilation behaviour in the slimserver interface. [this may simply be that I couldn't work out how to make Itunes do this automatically - I don't really use it !]. It underlined to me just how difficult it would be to come up with a 'one size fits all' guide to ripping and tagging. -- Siduhe ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Siduhe's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=723 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20595 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
