Heya smst! Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not really surprised if the SB3 can't cope with a 2400kbps FLAC (and I *really* won't be surprised if my wireless link get stressed out). But I"m trying to figure out why *your* lossless FLAC was only 30M where mine is 76Meg from the same source ac3. Surely something to do with the way we got our two intermediate WAVs? You built yours with your spdifconvert tool, and I let Foobar2000 do mine for me hidden in the background. So, as a matter of interest, what size WAV did you get?
As for FB2K playing back the 6-channel FLAC (or the 6-channel ac3), I think it was just playing 2 of the channels - it didn't sound like a downmix, lots of stuff was missing, which is *really* exciting, as it means that the 5.1 version is *very* multi-channel, not just discretely encoded ambience, if you know what I mean. I do have tools that will downmix from 6-channels, but that would defeat the purpose ;-) I'll have to look into Soft Bulletin once I get Yoshimi sorted out (Yoshimi is always my fave, though). Thanks for your help. I'll get a hold of your spdifconvert tool (it downloads fine at my office), and give that a go.
