And on the subject of multi-channel works by The Flaming Lips... I have a copy of Zaireeka, an early Lips foray into surround sound. It's on four discs which are intended to be played simultaneously (grab four stereos and some friends, sync up the tracks as best you can, and multi-channel weirdness ensues!).
One can rip these discs, down-convert them to mono, and use each of the four mono files as a separate channel in a Dolby Digital or DTS file (assuming you have an encoder. They're not free, but I think Andy mentioned in another thread that Nero comes with one). Then one can convert it as usual and listen to the whole thing issuing from four separate speakers. (It's more convenient, but you lose the organic quality which comes from starting slightly out of sync and CD players spinning at marginally different speeds.) So there's one more tip for the Lips collectors. :-) -- smst ------------------------------------------------------------------------ smst's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=752 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19260 _______________________________________________ ripping mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/ripping
