Chris

This gets stranger and stranger - I can see you've done some careful
testing there, but I'm getting quite different results. Can you confirm
which server version you are using? I'm using 6.2.2 - 5549 - Windows XP
- EN - cp1252

My results:
(1) create a completely empty library. Remove the sql file from cache.
Put in one compilation album. Rescan. Album has
Artist/Title/Genre/Tracknum/Year tags. i.e. NO Compilation tag. FLAC,
ripped and tagged using EAC, tags checked with mp3tag (show all tags).
"Group Compilation Albums together" is set, I've not changed the
default "Various Artists" special name.

(2) at this point the library shows "1 album with 22 songs by 0
artists". Browse Albums shows the album. Browse Artists gives an empty
list.

(3) add a normal album to the library. Now shows "2 albums with 32
songs by 1 artist". Browse Albums shows both albums. Browse Artists
shows Various Artists (leads to the one compilation album) and also the
artist for the normal album.

So, I can confirm the minor bug that the web interface doesn't list
Various Artists unless there is also a normal artist to show. I've
created http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2934 - you can
follow any discussion or news by registering your email address there.

But I can't confirm the requirement to have "Compilation" tag set. I'm
sure I recall earlier discussions where it was said that slimserver is
being smart enough to look for albums where there are different artists
being named, which should mean that "Compilation" is unnecessary.

And, for clarity, let's note that changing the default "Various
Artists" special name is ONLY necessary if any of your albums have been
tagged with Various Artists in the Artist field: the clean method is to
have Artist tagged correctly for every song.

Still puzzled.

Ceejay.
