Thats not how I read it... it says that if Compilation is set, it will set AlbumArtist to "Various Artists" (or your substitute thereof). And, if AlbumArtist is set, it uses that for Browse Artist purposes. In other words, setting Compilation is a sure-fire way of enforcing the behaviour. Dan's post then goes on to talk about what happens next - if there is no Compilation set, and you've asked for the Group Albums behaviour, it will look for albums it thinks are Compilations and then set AlbumArtist. In other words, if everything is cleanly tagged, you should NOT have to set Compilation. So the remaining mystery is why, on your system, the second part wasn't happening.
