Hi all, Got my SB3 last week and love it. All of my CDs were ripped into MP3s using MusicMatch at Variable Bit rate (VBR).
Last night I did some research and got the FLAC plugin for Winamp. I ripped Psychedelic Furs' "Midnight to Midnight" CD into FLAC. The file sizes were 5 times the MP3 file sizes. Went downstairs and listened to several tracks, comparing the MP3 files to the FLAC files. I could not tell a difference. They both sound GREAT. I CAN tell the difference if I put the CD in the CD Player and play it.. I connected my SB3 to my Denon AVR4800 receiver using the supplied RCA cables. It's plugged into the MD (mini disk) input of the receiver which is driving a pair of Martin Logan reQuests via an outboard amplifier (Carver TFM-35X). Any ideas why I'm not hearing difference between FLAC and VBR MP3?
