Hi folks,

I have one CD in my collection of hundreds that I can't add to the
Squeezebox because it not only won't rip but it freezes my PC as soon
as it goes into the drive. If I eject the CD, control returns.

I know what you are thinking. Turn off the Auto-run for the drive. I
can assure you that it is turned off and that I have verified it by
checking that the "Autorun value" under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom.
of the registry has been set to "0".

Is there something deeper in the registry I need to adjust so it
totally ignores the CD until I open up my ripping software?

I suspect that the drive may not be trying to 'run' anything but it is
trying to verify that there is a readable CD in there. However, even
if you throw a damaged CD in there, it doesn't freeze. In fact, I
tried throwing in the clear plastic spacer that came with my carousel
of blanks and it didn't freeze.

This tells me it is reading some kind of data that is hosing it.

I was also wondered if it might be the Sony trojan they were hiding on
their CDs for a while. It is a Sony CD but is an early year where I
think it wouldn't be present . I checked for the trojan via web
instructions but I also just this week, rebuilt my PC after a crashed
hard drive. I made sure auto run was set to off and still the PC
freezes. Therefore I don't think t would have had a chance to load but
who knows how sneaky it might be...

Any advice or thoughts?
