I think WMP embeds the cover art for you. I have some WMA lossless files that I converted to flac and I didn't lose anything in the conversion. Everything was retained even the artwork.
On a side note, when browsing playlists on Slimserver can you assign a picture to your playlists like you can with individual albums?
