Bingo - you'll need a spare hour or so to go through an 80-track boxed set spanning 3 or 4 decades and finding the release year for each song. The All-Music Guide is invaluable in these cases. You're also correct that being able to listen to stuff is more important than getting every tag perfect, but it's also cool that as you fix the tags your library becomes more valuable and usable.
