I started thinking that SC's "guess tags" logic was filling in some of the artists, but on further investigation, I ruled it out. Some of the artists in SC's list are not directories I have in my file system and some of the directories I do have are not in the artist list. Inconsistent again. But I think I am going to wipe that section of SC settings just to be sure. If I knew for sure what the behavior for Album Artist and Artist was SUPPOSED to be, at least then I would have something concrete and could come up with a plan for this mess. For now I think the best course of action is to ONLY use Album Artist tags for compilations. But I wish there was a way to get to Mudcrutch via Tom Petty or to get to Tabitha's Secret through Rob Thomas.
