They are MP3s. J River has separate Album Artist and Band fields, but I don't know how they map to TPE2. I have "Treat TPE2 MP3 tag as Band" selected in my settings and SC still shows my Album Artists so I assume J. River is not doing what most software does (though I think that will be changing in the next version). I have never used Band tags and J River does not have a compilation tag that I know of.
