You'll find links to information around the supported encoding methods, pros and cons, tools to get there, and much more. There is a tag that you'll be interested in for setting a gain adjustment on tracks. What I am doing initially, is importing all my CD's into iTunes in Apple Lossless format instead of MP3 or AAC. Once there, I have iTunes integration turned on in Squeezecenter. I also have some things ripped to FLAC, using EAC (Exact Audio Copy) and I typically use Album Art Cover Finder to dig up cover art. That's what I'm doing now...mainly because it's relatively quick and easy. What I see myself doing before long, is setting up a Squeezecenter implementation on FreeNAS and putting the whole library in FLAC. This gets everything to a native lossless format, so rewind and ff within a track are supported. At that point, I'll turn off the iTunes integration and keep iTunes strictly compressed for use with iPods/iPhones.
