I agree that it's inconvenient to have to put the composer and (main)
performer in the album title. IMO treating the composer as artist more
consistently would solve a big part of the problem.

As it is now, composers are treated as artists if you browse by artist.
But if you browse albums, they're not. And on the album page of the web
UI, the composer is given, but not on the controller: as you say here
you have to drill down to the info of one track.

Let's compare a rock album and a classical one, e.g. The Basement Tapes
by Bob Dylan and The Band and the Goldberg Variations played by Glenn
Gould. If you browse by artist you will see Bob Dylan and The Band,
which both lead to the album. But on the artist page with album listing,
the controller only gives the first artist (in my case Bob Dylan). One
level further (the album page), it is the same. Only on the individual
track page both are mentioned.

Now for the classical album: it behaves the same, but here it will
always be the performer (artist) that is mentioned.

In the Web UI, it's a bit better, but also more inconsistent. If you go
to the artist page of the Band, you will see The Basement Tapes by Bob
Dylan, The Band. But if you go to Bach, you get an album listing with
only the performer (artist). And if you go to Glenn Gould's album page,
you will have the Goldberg Variations without any mention of Bach. If
you go to the album page, both composer and performer (artist) are
stated.

If the composer was consistently handled as the (preferably main)
artist, things would be already be a lot better in the Web UI: we would
have both composer and performer on the composer or artist page and on
the album page. On the controller more work would have to be done to
make it show the same.

In this scenario, the main reason I (and a lot of others) have added
the composer and artist to the album title would no longer exist. Of
course, when I browse to Glenn Gould and see Goldberg Variations, I know
the composer is Bach. The real problem arises when I browse to Haitink
and see several titles 'Complete symphonies', or go to Angela Hewitt and
see several entries 'Complete Piano Works'.

Also, when browsing Home > Albums, the composer is no longer handled as
artist. You won't see Bach or Beethoven anywhere, independent of what
sort order you choose.

Overall I can live with the conventions I have chosen, but a lot of the
extra hassle would be solved if

1. The composer was consistently handled as the (main) artist and
2. The controller would give the same info as the Web UI.
