Ah. Cheers for that. Yes it's highly likely this is my problem. iTunes was crashing - badly - i.e. bluescreen of death. Something is very -up- with the setup. I uninstalled and reinstalled a later iTunes. Then it said it wasn't recognising the touch, please download 300MB of new firmware (yes, 300). So, some time around 2014 when it's down downloading, I'll load that, and see what happens.
MM is 3.0.3 1183 which is an older one but it's always worked so i never upgraded it (my rule learned from a brief dalliance beta testing SC!) I'm now going to factory reset the touch and go back to iTunes for synching. I really don't sync that often and iTunes doesn't offend me that much. I just would prefer not to have all that advertising shoved in my face every time it loads. Thanks for the tips.
