i think you are right... in my settings i had that set to:

treat multi disc sets as multiple albums

and chances are that setting uses the Disc tag info to decide that.

i've never seen that, but i believe you, but i don't see why that
matters? its not part of the same album and therefore it shouldn't go
in the same folder. if its not in the same folder as the album proper,
it would make a secondary listing anyway. (and presumably it would have
different album tag info anyway)

i'm talking about files in the same folder that share the same album
tag info (and actually come from the same CD). if the only difference
between them is X amt have Disc=1/1 and Y amt have Disc=(blank) then to
me, the sensible thing to do is assume they are part of 1/1 group,
precisely b/c they are in the same folder and have the same album tag
info.

i don't know what you mean by "a fair cop" but i agree the best
solution is to fix the tags, certainly. what i am talking about is what
should SBS do when tags aren't perfect, given this specific criteria?

for the educated user, this is the best course of action. but if SBS
can handle a bad situation better, i don't see why it shouldn't.

the one thing that really throws me in my examples in post 1, is why
SBS doesn't realize tracks 11 and 12 should be part of the first disc,
not the second?
