Yeah, but I figure I only do it once per album, so...

I generally go to Amazon, look at most of the available covers and
download any that may be candidates to use.  I almost always do a lookup
on Google Images too and grab something there, usually those with larger
dimensions and higher byte counts, or those that stand out in the
thumbnails shown.  I usually end up with two or three, maybe up to seven
candidates.  I then view them in sequence in my image editor and select
the best one, resize  it to 298x298, put a one pixel black border around
it and save as cover.jpg.  I may also tweak the color, contrast or
brightness a little to make an image look better.  If I can't make up my
mind between a couple of the originals then I'll resize them both to
300x300 and compare them side by side.  For older and out of print CDs
where there may not be anything satisfactory out on the internet, I
break out the scanner.
