The combination of dbPowerAmp and MediaMonkey has worked great to free
myself from iTunes and to live happily with both an iPod and a Logitech
Touch.

I had been using Apple Lossless files on the Touch, but experienced
annoying abrupt track jumps on the Touch, using its internal tinysb
server.

I used dbPowerAmp to transcode my library from Apple Lossless to FLAC
(took about an hour on my 4-cpu machine). Then I used MediaMonkey
(gold version) to wipe my iPod Classic clean and move the files onto
the iPod. It left my mp3 tracks as is, and transcoded the FLAC files
on the fly down to 256.

I now have just a single version of my music on my computer, which I
mirror onto my USB HDD that is connected to the Touch, and all the
files on my iPod are now in mp3 format.

Very slick.

I also like knowing that I can control my music transparently on Media
Monkey, without the mysterious database behavior of iTunes.

Thanks for your help.
