I have much the same workflow as you.  The big boost in workflow
performance for me was when I had a machine capable of ripping directly
to FLAC without blocking the ripping process.  By ripping directly to
FLAC, I didn't have to convert from WAV to FLAC in a separate step and
I didn't have to go back and tag the FLAC files.
