No, .nfo is quite common with video files. It's been used in XBMC and
some other media centers for a long time. Those .nfo files are also
super-popular in the Warez scene and in the demoscene.

However, I haven't seen .nfo files in conjunction with audio (well,
maybe once in a blue moon). And I wouldn't bother creating these tags
for audio. I've yet to encounter an audio player which (i) fails to read
tag formats like ID3v2.3 or VorbisComment but (ii) is capable of
handling .nfo files for audio...

Thus, my suggestion would be to not bother with it.
