 Almost.
 The X server must be running on the remote machine, and it serves
 its GUI applications to the local window manager.
 They are generated on the remote server, and displayed ( to the
 DISPLAY variable ) on the local machine.
 That's why they appear to be slower, or in the case of KDE ( exceedingly
 network intensive ) near stopped.
