Thanks Fred, it was actually Karl's site that got me off on this tangent 
to begin with. I must have missed something when I read it over as I was 
under the impression I could just set up the ssh session and then use 
the vnc reader to gain a remote display but didn't work out the way I 
read it it appears. Thus my QQ re syntax errors in setup as I wasn't 
able to gain access to the remote screen.

Thanks to all the other chaps' suggestions and tips as well
