 One can hope.
 In fact, this would be the very first whisper I've heard of X being retired.
 Even QNX supports X, though not by default.
 I've a very hard time believing X is even close to waning.
 OTOH, I wouldn't be too surprised to see X12.
 Whether it would last some 25 years as has X11 is mere speculation.

 X11 is circa 1987 I believe, with ( obviously ) 10 versions previous.

 I can remember the first time I saw X.
 I swore it was the same Alto environment I'd seen at PARC,
 and later on LISA.
 It was a long time ago.
