I haven't used Maya but Blender is no where near the capability of a Bryce or Vue. I've only heard of one person who has used Maya and they weren't impressed.
There are a lot of factors that go into the software thing. Bryce for example, has tons of material, atmospheric and objects available for download that make the generation of a product quick and easy. I suspect the same can be said for other software. The best solution would be for Bryce or Vue to create a Linux version of their software. Star Office can be used in either Windows or Linux and it imports Office documents. People don't want to have to spend a lot of time learning new software. Now some might call that "lazy". I suggest it's simply a matter of not having the time available. Besides their jobs, people have homes and families and other things they want to do besides sit in front of a computer learning new software. Linux will be most successful when software manufacturers start making "Linux versions" of their software.
