You could take the totaly paranoid stick it to the man approach that is 
teen-rebelion-compliant.

you could explain that as a part of the Microsoft Anti-trust settlement 
that the US Govt is forcing M$ to open source 99% of their API. The other 
1% that nobody talks about is the top secret US Govt "Security" (as in 
homeland) API that is not open, and embeded into all future windows 
distributions.   This explains why governments world wide are going 
Linux -- to keep the US out of their systems....
