I had some issues with some of the questions, in that the "technically
correct" answer wasn't always the one they were looking for. All
certification exams have those, so it wasn't a fault belonging solely to
the LPI tests.

Overall, I'd say that the testing methodology is a bit more rigorous with
LPI than with some of the purely multiple-guess tests I've taken for other
certs, but I found the level one exams fairly painless. In fact, I thought
101 was slightly harder than 102, but that could just be the luck of the
draw in test forms. And since you asked, both tests were $100 through Vue
when I took them.

I passed both exams the first time through, and really only spent about a
week with the O'Reilly LPI in a Nutshell book as my "prep." Two things to
remember for the LPI exams:

    - the questions are not always based on recent distros, so you have
to be flexible with some of the questions such as those about file
      locations and available tools; and

    - LPI tries to be distro-agnostic, so you really need to know both
apt and rpm fairly well, and try very hard to avoid redhat-isms in
      your thinking.

Lastly, if you have the option, I recommend the Vue testing center at
Sierra Computers over the TMCC lab. The two times I used TMCC, I found the
network connection to Vue to be sluggish and unresponsive. They may have
fixed this by now, but they certainly never responded to my complaints
about it. Your mileage may vary.

Bottom line on LPI: I think it's the most relevent (and affordable) Linux
cert available, but if you're going in front of a clueless suit, the RHCE
is going to impress more...probably due to the $749 price tag on the exam,
although some might claim it's the name recognition instead. :)
