Well, it looks like it's that time of year again. The ISP war!

When I first moved to the area and went shopping for DSL (only
had cable where I was before), I ended up choosing GBIS
primarily because they promised I'd never have to deal with SBC.
I still had to pay for the starter kit (modem, dsl filters), but
I never had to call, write to, hear from, or get billed by SBC.
At that time, GBIS was about $10/mo more than comparable SBC
service, but it was well worth it for me. My current
geographical situation makes DSL a poor choice for me (and
Charter's recent upstream bandwidth increase made it a little
less of an issue), but I would certainly recommend GBIS to new
customers. Their techs are knowledgeable, and don't stutter
when you mention Linux or BSD. The owner, Bruce, is also
a great guy. He had GBIS host RLUG for bit, attending several
meetings as well.

When I lived in Gardnerville, I had Pyramid.Net for dialup
service and dealt with their admin, Randy, on many occasions.
He was supremely helpful, and an old Unix hand to boot. The
rest of the company seemed pretty knowledgeable as well. I also
had the occasion to meet Bob, the owner, a few times, who is
a super nice guy.

If I decided to switch back to DSL, I'd have a hard time
deciding between these two companies.

YMMV.

fo0bar, you're rebuttal?
