Open the file in Gimp. Got to file > save as . . .
open the arrow "Select File Type (By Extension)
Select the file type you want to 'save as . . .'
It will change the extension.
Save to whatever file location you close by navigating is "Save in folder:"

Dennis,
I'm no expert either. But here's my best:
1. Open the document (too easy?!)
2. Right click the image
3. Goto file -> Save as
4. There should be a drop down option for the file format
- Just save as filename.png, or filename.jpg, or whatever... need not
select from drop down, it knows based on what extension you give it,
unless you want to save without an extension (Jeff).
5. Select the desired format and save
That should work. Let me know if it doesn't.

Hey folks,
I am not particularly familiar with GIMP or Photoshop or any of those
programs - but - I have a graphic file in a TIFF format that I need to
change into some other format so I can insert it into another document.
Can someone please save me a bunch of research time and give me the
actual directions on how to do that - step by step?
Thanks
Dennis
