Why is "very bad" not good enough to accomplish your goal, but "gone" is? I would think if you can't pressure them in with something you feel is so terrible (and many of them openly feel so too) simply removing the screen isn't going to accomplish anything but remove the ability of those who are comfortable with grid mode from using the screen, while continuing to see it not get fixed.
