I wasn't able to build citserver with your version of sysdep.c because of a missing variable name (for the pid file), but it looks like it'll work. Let's try it. I especially like the idea that we can have the init script fail if citserver fails to initialize (if it crashes prior to start_daemon() being called) but then once start_daemon() is called, the init script will succeed and citserver will automatically restart if it crashes later on.
