Xruns are basically only bad if they happen while you're trying to do
something interesting. I've never been able to eliminate them completely,
but I can usually get my box settled down to where everything is behaving
itself when I'm using it, and I only see these when JACK is basically idle.
I tend to get xruns from other things, like the link phase of a Rosegarden
build, for example, which might cause me 247 xruns in a row, but it's rare
for me to get them at a cricital time in the middle of recording something.
This is in stark contrast to the days when I was trying to run on a stock 2.4
kernel. I got a perpetual, nearly unbroken stream of xruns then, and JACK
wasn't usable.

No clue on that, or on the kernel tweaking side. I'm running a kernel I more
or less ripped off from Studio..to Go!, actually. JACK is arcane rubber
chicken goat blood voodoo stuff, and not my bailiwick. I suggest you try the
broader Linux audio community for that stuff.
