I expect you're unique!  :-)  Most users probably have a RO machine in
the attic.  Even those that do have one all networked up should apply
Linux instructions on the Linux machine.

http://www.marutan.net/rpcemu/linuxcompile.html doesn't cover
downloading the source tar file so you're following something else at
that point?

The latter is a big file of bytes to Linux that RISC OS will only access
through the emulated hard disk interface hardware.
