rsync between partitions

Is there any way to rsync between raw partitions?

(I just tried with 2.3.1 and 2.4.6, and no go in my experiment).

What I want is for every block or group of blocks to be checksummed,
and those with non-matching checksums to be updated.

Any suggestions? I'm happy to hack the code.
