Thanks for the response. So I tried:

 ./script/plugin --verbose install git://github.com/rails/in_place_editing.git

and the following was output to my console:

Plugins will be installed using http
git init
git pull --depth 1 git://github.com/rails/in_place_editing.git

But I still do not see anything in my plugins directory.

What is the 'git' command in the above? Do I need to install this
first?
