Howdy Friends
Gotta disagree a wee bit... so what else is new! ;-)

Every photo and article - no matter the scale - gives me inspiration.
And even the simplest of taskzs can have new ways of being done.
Yes, it is currently geared for the RTR folks - that is the current
driving force in the market. Funny, but years ago, there were
criticisms that the articles were complex and intense, such as Gordon's
scratchbuilding a brass 2-8-2 or the CTC16 throttle series. Bottom
line, you cannot please everyone.
> The benefits for me do not justify the costs.
Now that is a personal decision that everyone has to make on their own.
For me, the mags are some of the cheapest entertainment around
providing hours of reading and dreaming.
As for why circ is down..... lots of factors. I think the biggest is
that there are so many magazines are on the market diluting the
potential circ of MR as various readers decide to specialize. A quick
count shows there are OVER 20 railroad modeling mags!
Second important reason is that we used to buy the mags to see what is
new... now the Internet does that for many of us.
And yes, as the entire hobby industry (except video games) ages, some
folks just reach a level of saturation and don't care about what is new
or how to do something differently.
We see the same thing - decreasing attendance - with the national
conventions. There are soooooo many scale specific, region specific,
and/or gauge specific conventions and train shows that the national
shows are diluted.
Take care
Bill
