Dave,
  If I had 24' x 24' I'd have stayed in O. Now that I've made the move, I'm
very pleased that I didn't have that much space. S has some advantages over O
that I would not have discovered had I not switched. Just one example...You
can't rerail an O scale car with one hand. Your fingers will not reach the
trucks while straddling the car. This is an awsome scale. Now that I'm here,
I'd never go back, up or down.

Hi Ed, I have a similar history. I would still be happily modeling
O scale if I wanted to maintain a large barn for a layout. I'm hoping
I can build a nice S scale retirement layout in about a 24 by 24 foot
room and enjoy the comforts of the house.
I agree the internet and ebay are great resources for an S scale
modeler, in fact the closing of local hobby shops might benefit S
scale by leveling the playing field of availability? If everyone can
choose from the same online menu containing S scale along with the
other more popular choices then S might gain some new faces. I do my
part by pointing out the advantages of S size to everyone I know. I'm
not an evangilical and am not gaugecentric, I just hope that more S
scalers will get us more new models, I'm tired of the same old steam
era stuff, I want to move my railroad into the last half of the 20th
century!! ....dave
