Raleigh is absolutely correct about the space inside a G, unless you go to 
the left hand side and sit in the fireman's seat.  Union "featherbedding" 
required a fireman on the G's and virtually every other diesel and electric 
locomotive, altho there was nought for them to do.  A "good" fireman would 
occasionally sweep the cab(s).  "Santa Claus" took G's into Penn Station in New 
York on 
more than one occasion.  Usually on the Harrisburg to New York run.  I happen 
to know "Santa" and the "real" engineer, both.
