That was part of the problem - the Pennsy kept increasing the dividends but didn't have the finances to support the increases. I can't recall which record they had right up to the merger - either the longest string of uninterrupted dividends or the longest string of increasing dividends. One study showed that their pride prevented them from cutting the dividend and saving significant amounts of money, as their reputation would be harmed. Several books on the disaster also point the blame at the lack of integration, as someone else already posted. As a computer programmer myself, I'm astounded that no one seemed to realize their computer systems could not talk to each other, nor did that seem to be an issue before the merger was finalized. To bring this back to S scale.... In late '64/early '65, NYC sublettered some two bay open top hoppers for TOC (Toledo & Ohio Central), then PC did the same for some boxcars shortly after the merger. Although not my era, I'm going to model some of these hoppers, as the NYC painted a TO over the NY and were done. Now to find appropriate models for the following: Some prototype hoppers under NYC: <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc830315.jpg> <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc830413ass.jpg> <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc830472.jpg> <http://www.canadasouthern.com/caso/images/toc-831444.jpg> - best view of repaint Some prototype boxcars under PC and CR: <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/pc/toc149094ajg.jpg> <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc149665ags.jpg> <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc161129.jpg> <http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/nyc/toc161133awb.jpg> - in Conrail paint Mark Plank -- Be Yourself @ mail.com!
