There was a company that use to produce these types of track gauges
out of acrylic. I think they were called Rollie Holders and I do not
recall the company's name. The advantage of acrylic over aluminum is
that they will not short! :o I used them while in HO and I had some
made for me for S (by the unnamed company). I have since made my own
out of acrylic rod because they are trivial to make if you have a
lathe. The real Rollie Holders were different colors for different
rail sizes which was nice. These types of holders are great because
they accurately, and firmly hold the rail in place while you spike. I
typically use three or four at a time when putting down track. I've
always disliked the three point gauges because I do not believe in
changing the gauge of track around curves. But that may just be me.
