Gentle man , please explain the advantage of a round track guage versus a
square track guage. the only difference i see is the fact you roll one and
slide the other. Tomalco allready has square ones made of brass and they work
very well. Thanks Bert cutler

There was a company that use to produce these types of track gauges out of
acrylic. I think they were called Rollie Holders and I do not recall the
company's name. The advantage of acrylic over aluminum is that they will not
short! :o I used them while in HO and I had some made for me for S (by the
unnamed company). I have since made my own out of acrylic rod because they are
trivial to make if you have a lathe. The real Rollie Holders were different
colors for different rail sizes which was nice. These types of holders are
great because they accurately, and firmly hold the rail in place while you
spike. I typically use three or four at a time when putting down track. I've
always disliked the three point gauges because I do not believe in changing the
gauge of track around curves. But that may just be me.
