When Russ Downs started moving from using American Flyer shells from various sources for repainting to Pacific Rail Shops cars because they were easier to get, Russ encountered a bit of a marketing issue. His business was almost completely the Hi Rail crowd. If you will remember the PRS 50' cars came out before the 40' cars. After a so-so start he finally got some of his better customers to "talk". They asked Russ why he was using >>Lionel<< bodies on S gauge trucks! They wanted colorful cars - not all boxcar red cars! They didn't like that the roofs were higher than their A F cars! Russ also mentioned the 50' cars took away from the number of cars that could fit in a train. Business increased greatly when Russ added the 40' cars to the line.
