Maybe it should be explained as what it is -- A legal requirement of
the insurance industry. Or we can pay double or triple for the
insurance. Membership organizations get a discount were as a meeting
open to the public is considered a MUCH larger risk.
The same as the "Hotel Fees" Many hotel contracts have a clause that
you have to sell so many room nights to get the meeting space. If
not, you pay full price - no discount. This happened at a past
Seattle convention and the host's widow was sent a large bill. We
passed the hat and got her the money.
So these fees are for good reasons. The non member fee is much less
than the increase in door fees would otherwise need to be.
