Just took delivery on one of Jim King's kits and treated myself to reading the
instruction sheet (some new technology--a very compact CD)--can't do anything
else with ituntil I finish some long-delayed projects. It is a remarkable
piece of design and engineering, perhaps the best thought-out kit I can recall,
and I've seen a lot of them overthe years. The only reservation I have is
whether he might have had the exact-scale coupler pockets as an add-on, with a
cutout for SHS couplers. I got out my PennHistorical44T (former SteamDepot),
which I'd been able to modify quite nicely to accept SHS couplers (just no room
with the gearboxes for Kadee draftgear) while replacing the castfootboard
pilots. The PH casting is not quite 1/8" longer, so probably Jim's exact scale
frame was just a bit too short. Would have been interesting, however--not that
I amlikely to do much cutting up of my frame to experiment.I had bought a 70T
kit earlier and thought it looked good but hadn't quite studied the instruction
CD as closely...
