Hi fellow S enthusiasts,
Another week in the books. Made some progress on the project list, not huge
but forward progress. I added more lights in the back room over the cement
plant and that highlighted a turnout that had been left in place although the
trackage past it was long gone. Now this is out and the wye is back up and
running, two projects crossed out. I completed the mainline through the hidden
storage and formed much of the rest of the track, three new turnouts in, the
area is ready for turnout control and wiring. While in the area, I replaced
the ballasts in the light fixture. took out the two old ballasts and installed
a new high efficiency ballast. Nice to have more light there and nice to save
about 25% of the energy costs.
Saturday my cousin from D.C. was in town and brought her three kids over. I
had the layout set up for them, a couple of SHS switchers with sound and a
handful colorful boxcars and some open top hoppers for them to play with.
Everything bulletproof except I should have changed out my handheld controllers
as they seemed to have wiped out the stops on the speed control. Darn poor
engineering on the controllers I would say. Anyway they had fun getting the
trains going and then chasing them around the basement. They left the gondolas
full of cows, horses and hay bales (to keep the animals from getting hungry).
Other than the little issue with the handhelds and some trinkets to clean up, I
have the fun memory of their smiles and laughs left over. Good trade, I have
had adult model railroaders leave more damage after their visits.
Well, time to update the priority list for next week.
