Back in the 3/16's Days, both Dick K. and I wrote reviews on the S
Scenery DS USRA boxcar. We had different opinions due to the variances
in the actual models received. Mine went together rather well as I
recall and I still have the car. This car was made in the early days of
resin kits. I recall some issues with the fishbelly--rather crude
components and the resin brakewheel should have been thinner brass, but
the overall detail was impressive when compared to anything we had at
the time. Even today I think it would be considered a really good model.
One thing that bothered me on the car and likewise the SHS version
was the lack of large 45 degree nut/bolt detail on the end of the car.
This nut/bolt casting(s) was actually a long rod that ran diagonally
into the floor. This was a major component in keeping the ends plumb.
I installed them on the S Scenery version while my SHS cars await them.
I used some Grandt Line N&B casting designed for the ends of truss rod
cars, but I don't recall what scale/size.

Tom,
Wouldn’t want to discourage anyone from building! They come out
pretty nice. Bob Were did a review of them years ago that was very
helpful. Maybe he can remember where it was.
