Only the 1946 production Santa Fe 16 Class passenger F3's had the long
warbonnet. These also did not or ever receive stainless steel panels.
The MTH illustration is accurate for loco's 16LABC-21LABC. As delivered, the
loco's had three portholes and the warbonnet extended past the middle one.
Even after refitting with newer panels throughout their life, the long
warbonnet was retained on these numbers to the end of their service.
Stainless steel panels and short warbonnet began with the 1948 production,
beginning with 22LABC and up.
Now, hopefully, MTH will lose the steam generator on the Santa Fe A units.
